R$ $mooth grew up in Beechville, Nova Scotia. Developing a love of Radio at an early age $mooth started getting into DJing at age 13 & became a volunteer Programmer at Dalhousie University's Campus-Community station, CKDU, co-hosting a show called "Funk-N-Effect" with Kendall Mulder, aka "DJ Delite". In 2004, he was hired as a Producer & On-Air Announcer for Metro Radio Group, for stations such as C100 & 101.3 The Bounce (now Virgin Radio). The Radio student became the Radio teacher as Ryan succeeded his former Radio Instructor, Dave Bannerman, in November of 2017, becoming the Radio Instructor for the Radio Television-Journalism program at NSCC Ivany campus, the very same program he graduated from. These days, you can still catch him DJing frequently at some of the hottest events in Nova Scotia. Tune into CKDU 88.1 FM (www.ckdu.ca ) Sundays at 2pm to hear his show, "$mooth Groove$", a show that will enter its 4th decade on the air in the 2020’s.
